On 1 February 2012 revisions to the regulatory fees and charges pursuant to the Mining Regulations 2011 came into effect.

The 2011 amendments to the Mining Act 1971 (the Act) and Mining Regulations 2011 (the Regulations) removed several fees from Schedule 1 (the fee schedule).  To finalise the fee schedule in-line with Cabinet’s original approval of the Mining Variation Regulations 2011, some further amendments to the Act and the Regulations have occurred.  As a result, Schedule 1 now includes the following fees:

  • New ‘Annual Administration Fee’ of $110 per tenement for Mining Leases, Retention Leases and Miscellaneous Purposes Licences.
  • New ‘Regulation Fee’ of $220 per tenement for Mineral Leases, Retention Leases and Miscellaneous Purposes Licences.
  • New ‘Assessment Fee’ of $500 per tenement for Mining Leases, Retention Leases and Miscellaneous Purposes Licences.
  • New ‘Advertising Fee’ of $597 per Retention Lease application.

Prior to the implementation of the amendments to the Act and the Regulations significant stakeholder engagement occurred. All submissions received during the legislative amendment process were given due consideration and provided valuable feedback.

The South Australian Chamber of Mines and Energy and Cement, Concrete and Aggregates Australia also played a key role during the legislative amendment process.
