Discovery to Development will streamline the mining assessment and approval process to six months through the implementation of a new “Whole of Life” management system. This system will have the capability to follow the entire history of a project from the initial exploration lease application through to project closure and rehabilitation. The new interface will also track the status of mining lease assessments revolutionising government-industry interactions in South Australia.
Objective: The development and implementation of world’s best practice in the regulation and management of exploration, mining and quarrying activity in South Australia.
Recent changes in legislation have focused the South Australian Government on developing the next generation of industry policies and guidelines.
These next generation policies will align resource development, conservation and sustainability with South Australia’s economic, environmental and social future.
South Australia will be benchmarked against other regions throughout the world in areas such as project assessment and facilitation, community engagement, and environmental monitoring and management.
Objective: Establish partnerships between key government agencies and specialised research organisations to address the issues of location, use and management of the South Australia’s water resources.
Water and Mining will create a partnership between government agencies and leading research organisations with the task of mapping groundwater systems. This combined effort aims to identify future water resources for sustainable development of communities and industry in South Australia’s arid north.
The program will also offer drilling subsidies to companies to identify water resources for developing mines and geothermal projects.
Objective: To promote engagement between an effective government, socially aware industry and an informed community, creating confidence in the South Australian mineral and energy sector.
The Communities program continues the South Australian Government’s strong tradition of engagement and cultural exchange in regional and remote areas established during the initial PACE Initiative.
It defines the engagement between government, the industry and community as a priority and will launch a detailed Community Engagement Strategy for use by industry and government. This will include a series of engagement toolkits and identify the roles and responsibilities of both government and industry through every step of project development.
