Gradient strings, also known as multi-scale edges or worms, reflect changes in rock properties, often mirroring geological or lithological boundaries.
They are created by calculating the maximum horizontal derivative for different levels of upward continued geophysical data.
The magnetic strings that have been produced here are derived from the Fifth Edition Total Magnetic Intensity (TMI) Anomaly Grid of Australia, Geoscience Australia, 2010 and the gravity strings from the Australian National Gravity Database 0.5 Minute Onshore Gravity Grid, Geoscience Australia, 2008.
The gradient string datasets are available from SARIG as a series of shapefiles.
